The role involves building and maturing MongoDB-based database foundations, improving engineering standards, and working with teams to create backend database solutions that meet data and security needs.


Responsibilities

  • Build and mature MongoDB-based database foundations, including operations, platform lifecycle, troubleshooting, and performance tuning
  • Improve the company's high engineering standards, tooling, and process
  • Work directly with the engineering teams to create backend database solutions to meet their challenging data and security needs
  • Work with the security team on security compliance, pen tests, and mitigations that improve security across the company
  • Build systems capable of handling billions of documents, making them available to the workforce and the internal teams with high availability

Skills

  • Experience in the design, installation, and configuration of multi-node MongoDB sharded clusters and replica sets running on AWS EC2
  • Experience adding and removing replica and shard nodes in MongoDB clusters as needed
  • Experience identifying appropriate shard keys and ensuring even distribution of data across shards
  • Experience converting non-sharded replica sets to sharded clusters due to data size growth and query optimization
  • Experience with proper query planning and performance tuning, as well as experience with Mongoose ODM
  • Experience with MongoDump and MongoRestore
  • Knowledge about certificate-based x509 authentication and authorization mechanisms
  • Experience managing on prem/self hosted MongoDB instance
  • Extensive knowledge of Mongo replication architecture and change stream
